This latter port can offer power, data, and video in one cable to your connected MacBook. For power, it offers 65W of power delivery, enough to recharge a inch MacBook Pro while in use. A pair of USB-A ports in the monitor also allow for other devices to be connected up, expanding the connectivity of the host device by two more ports.

The monitors are also supplied with a fully articulating stand with height, vertical tilt, and horizontal swivel adjustments. The LG UltraFine Thunderbolt monitors continue to be the best third-party monitor option for Mac users, combining great displays with the Mac-friendly Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Using Thunderbolt 3, users can connect a single cable to their Mac or MacBook that handles power, data, and video. While this is similar to USB-C in principle, you gain Thunderbolt 3-specific benefits, including daisychaining the monitor with other devices, and having up to 40Gbps of bandwidth available.

The virtually borderless UltraWide display has a resolution of by , making it wider in resolution than a 4K screen. Gaming monitors often come with bright LED backlights, aggressive design, and expensive price tags. The LG UltraGear inch gaming monitor is a performance powerhouse with all the specs you'd want when connecting a Mac. The monitor is comparable to the LG UltraFine 5K mentioned before, but with quite a few key differences.

The x 4K display also has a Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time, far faster than most other 4K monitors on the market. The monitor's rear has an RGB LED ring that will shine colors on a nearby wall depending on settings made with proprietary software or via in-monitor settings.

This can be turned off entirely or show static colors as desired, but you'll probably want it to be active for the sake of your eyes. Ultrawide monitors have become popular as an alternative to multiple display setups, giving you the screen estate of two screens with the footprint of one. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is one such ultra-wide screen, consisting of a inch curved gaming monitor. The giant curved screen offers the equivalent of two QHD monitors but in a single very wide panel.

The ultrawide monitor's x resolution gives it an aspect ratio of , making it extremely wide compared to its height. Naturally, as a gaming monitor, it also benefits from many gaming-related extras, including a 1ms response time, a Hz refresh rate, Freesync Premium Pro support, and G-Sync compatibility. Connectivity is provided by 2 HDMI 2. The breadth of connection options comes in handy for another feature, with the ability to use picture-in-picture to have video from two sources side-by-side on the same screen.

Of course, the best display you can buy is the one sold by Apple itself. It's impossible to seriously recommend the Pro Display XDR, realistically, as anyone who really needed one has bought their own by now. However, if you happen to have a few thousand dollars to spend, this will complement any M1-based Mac with its inch display and beautiful design.

The x 6K display has a 1 million to 1 contrast and a bit color depth. M1-based Macs can run the display without issue, but it was originally designed to be used with Apple's Mac Pro. Apple hasn't given any other real options for a self-produced separate display, meaning if you are desperate for an Apple-branded screen, this is your main choice. As a word of warning, Apple's M1-based Macs currently do not support external GPU eGPU technology, and while there were initially hopeful signs this may change, it has yet to do so.

But, if you have an Intel-based Mac, you can consider the use of an eGPU to increase performance, provide power to your portable Mac, and in some cases provide legacy ports and networking. Amazon also stocks the XT. The two can accept a macOS-compatible graphics card, and offer 85W of power delivery to a host Mac over Thunderbolt 3.

The EX edition makes the enclosure more useful as a docking station, with the inclusion of four USB 3. These prices exclude the cost of the graphics card itself, which will vary greatly depending on the model and performance. AAPL: Best all-around monitor. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is one of the best gaming monitors ever made, and that wider-than-wide display offers an astonishing amount of room for your apps. The downside to a massive screen is that it needs a massive amount of space too, and the price tag is hardly tiny either.

But you do get a lot of display for your money, and not just in terms of dimensions. It delivers levels of brightness to rival a high-end TV, has a 1ms response rate and looks spectacular no matter what you throw at it: movies, games, photos… they're all rendered in spectacular fashion.

The downsides are that you'll need an M1 Mac mini to power its resolution or a recent Intel-powered Mac mini running Big Sur or later. And the lack of support for HDR or very high refresh rates in Macs means you're not making the most of everything this screen can do unless you're also connecting a gaming device of some kind.

And it's important to note that while this is a high resolution display, it isn't a hugely dense display: it's ppi compared to around ppi for a inch 4K monitor. But it's well worth buying knowing these caveats, because it's truly spectacular, and might be perfect for your multi-device setup. Here's our full Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 review.

One consideration is that if you opt for a 4K display, everything will appear smaller on the screen, and unless you have acute vision, you may find that you need a special computer eyeglass prescription. It also means that you want a better quality display that resolves text as very sharp, and not blurry.

I wanted more desktop than offered by a 27 inch display, and did not want the issues that users of 34, 39, 49 inch gaming displays were experiencing with their resolution. There is no keyboard control of audio, or screen brightness, but that is not an issue for me as there are alternatives. Further to your question, folks using conversion cables, or adapters, such as USB-C to DisplayPort seem to have a higher incidence of problems with their displays not waking up when their computer comes out of sleep.

Unless you are planning to attach a laptop to the monitor that could take advantage of charging via the USB-C cable, you really don't need a monitor with a 4k monitor with a USB-C port. If you are seeking a 4k monitor specifically for use with your Mac mini, then HDMI to HDMI is all you need for 4k 60hz performance, and you will have a higher likelihood of no issues with the monitor waking up.

Since my M1 mini experienced the waking problem with my first monitor high-end Alienware and zero problems with my new LG 4k, I was contacted by an Apple tech as a result of posting here to runs some tests and provide feedback. In my case, we were able to pin down the problem to the Alienware monitor and not the M1 Mac mini. So, heads-up as you shop for monitors, since the one you select can make a bid difference in whether you have issues or not.

Dec 18, PM. That, or give up 4k to go with one of the wide format monitors. However, in other threads here, it seems that the wide format folks are having a lot of issues with monitor flickering, etc. I have not tested the USB-C connection. Dec 19, AM. I disagree with VikingOSX on this: "One consideration is that if you opt for a 4K display, everything will appear smaller on the screen".

I never owned any Mac with Retina display. That why things appeared much smaller than prior experience, and I had to make some settings adjustments to compensate. With 32", do you maintain the vertical and just get additional horizontal pixel count? If not, I could foresee things stretching and getting a little wonky. In another post, a user was inquiring about 2 27" monitors and the need to use two different cables.

I wondered how the wider format monitors would work out, but have no experience with what resolutions end up getting used. The display size of this 32 inch LG is x The pixel pitch mm is 0. Dec 20, PM. Ah, so you have a 32" monitor but still with the standard aspect ratio.

I was thinking that you were using a UltraWide monitor. I know that at 4k both would still have the same vertical resolution. What I don't know is what the monitors do regarding the horizontal resolution to take advantage of that extra real estate. Not sure that I would jump on board a 24' display, after having a 27", but that DPI should look stunning!

Dec 21, AM. No issues. Wakes from sleep. Crisp image. Colors are good. I will run my Spyder5 Pro color calibrater later, but out-of-the box is more than acceptable I may change my mind after calibration. Running at its native 4K resolution. And yes, the text is pretty small.

I may try some of the other resolution options. One of the best things about this particular monitor is the stand it comes with. Able to set the screen at the best distance for my eyes. Dec 30, PM. I just purchased the monitor and Mac mini and I received the monitor first and I have been reading about some nightmares with some 4K monitors and the new Mac mini!

Thanks greatly appreciated! Jan 16, AM. Many are experiencing issues with monitors waking up when coming out of sleep, but that is not specific to 4k monitors. As stated there, I could not be more pleased with my choice. As I did my research for buying mine, I found it to be very frustrating as LG has far too many monitor models that are way too similar, no perceptible meaning built into the model numbers, and they are inconsistent with the application of specification naming such that when you use the "Compare" function, you find what seems to be differences that really are not.

Two monitors can both have the same spec, they just show up in two different places on the compare list because LG did not maintain consistency in how they listed the spec. With all that said, as I looked back through the specs on your 27UDW, I do not see any concerns that would prompt me to want to send it back.

I only went with the 27UNW as it was a brand new model for LG in this class, and would hopefully benefit from any recent design changes they felt were needed in the line. Regarding 4k in general, I personally would not go for a lesser resolution. Part of the Apple magic is the high DPI count. The M1 MacBooks are limited to only one external display. While prior Mac Mini models had some workarounds to get a Mac Mini running on an iMac monitor, you will have to obtain a separate display this time.

Not reliably. You could use Mac screen sharing or a solution like Luna Display over Wi-Fi if you are desperate, but most workarounds are a pain to get started. It's best to stick with an external monitor whenever possible. Even options such as using Sidecar with an iPad require you to have a display first to set it up. Plug in both devices don't turn them on yet , and then connect those ports with the compatible cable.

Then turn your Mini and your monitor on. You also can find USB-C adapter cables that will work with the Thunderbolt 3 port if you are working only with DisplayPlay or other, rarer connections. Given that the Mac Mini only supports two external displays and the M1-powered MacBooks can only connect to one monitor, a curved display can be a good solution to get more screen real estate. Curved monitors come in a variety of sizes and resolutions, but in general, you'll want to choose an ultrawide curved display.

There are several benefits here. First, curved displays are more immersive and the slight curvature can help immerse you into the content you're looking at or working on. Second, the wide format means you essentially get the benefit of having two displays, but without the seams of connecting two monitors together. And third, cable clutter is reduced to a single cable running to your Mac.

If you're short on desk space with a large ultra-wide panel, be sure to choose a monitor that comes with a VESA mounting bracket so you can mount the display to a monitor arm or to the wall. Monitors that only have older connections will not be a good fit. Otherwise, it's mostly down to how you'll be using the Mac Mini, and this can vary a lot. Artists and photographers will want to look for high-quality panels with plenty of color coverage. Those with additional accessories like MacBooks may want to check for extra USB-C hubs for multiple connections or charging.

If you'll be moving your Mini around frequently, look for a monitor design with easy-to-reach ports so re-connecting it will be less of a hassle. Apple Studio Display Jump to details. HP Z38c curved monitor Jump to details. Apple Studio Display.
